Have you taken any courses or Nanodegree programs on Udacity?

For those who don’t know, Udacity is an online learning platform that provides courses in the latest tech fields, such as data science, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and many others, taught by industry experts who already belong to the industry.

In fact, I have enrolled in a few Udacity programs, and based on my personal experience, I must say that their courses are worth pursuing. I would also recommend giving this platform a try if you’re inclined to learn any tech skills.

Now, let’s get to the point. Udacity has changed its pricing model to a subscription model.

Let’s discuss how much Udacity cost in 2024 and whether it’s worth the investment or if you should look for alternatives.

Udacity’s new subscription plan starts at $249 per month. You can also get a 20% discount by paying upfront for an annual subscription, which costs $2,390. You also get a 7 day free-trial added with it.

With this subscription, Udacity gives you access to its entire course library, which includes over 80 Nanodegree programs and 300 short-duration courses.

In India, this Udacity subscription costs ₹20,500 per month and the annual subscription costs ₹196,800.

The cost may decrease further, up to 40–60%, with personalized discounts that Udacity offers from time to time.

When you compare Udacity’s subscription cost to its earlier Nanodegree costs, you will find a significant difference between them.

Previously, Udacity used to offer two pricing plans for every Nanodegree program: Monthly access and Pay upfront with an average time to finish the course.

The Monthly access plan would cost $399 (or ₹22,500) per month (the same for all Nanodegree programs), whereas if you chose to pay upfront, the prices varied, along with a 15% savings.

When selecting the bundled option, prices used to depend on the average time to finish the course. For example, if a Nanodegree program took 3 months to complete, it would cost $1,077, and if 4 months, it would cost $1,436, and more if a program took even longer to complete.

Remember, this was the cost of one Nanodegree program, and you didn’t have the option to switch to a different Nanodegree. If you wanted to pursue any other Nanodegree, you had to purchase it separately.

Looking at Udacity’s new pricing model, the cost has not only decreased but it also gives you access to 80 Nanodegree programs, with an option to switch to multiple courses from different industries as well.

Now, the question is, is Udacity worth the cost, or should you look for alternatives?

Well, when it comes to course material and content quality, Udacity is a top-notch platform. My only concern was its price, but now it has decreased significantly while providing more value.

You might argue that its subscription is still expensive compared to Coursera plus, which costs only $59 per month, and I’d agree with that. However, if you look at Udacity’s course library, you’d notice that it offers more advanced-level courses, and you’d also find a series of courses (i.e., School of Udacity programs) in a particular field to excel in that industry.

Coursera, on the other hand, offers more job-oriented professional certifications and skill-based training to prepare you for an entry-level job.

Recently, I also published an in-depth comparison of Udemy, Coursera, and Udacity, feel free to read it.

Now, I’d love to hear from you: What do you think? Is Udacity’s new subscription model worth the cost, or were its earlier pricing models better?
